We always enjoy visiting San Diego. Although we normally visit during the winter months, San Diego has an ideal climate year round, and with the cool ocean air, it doesn’t normally get too hot even in the middle of summer. With the August long weekend and some conveniently scheduled non-stop flights, it was a nice opportunity to get back to San Diego for a short visit.

Unfortunately, just before our trip, the air conditioner on our new house stopped working. Luckily the problem was diagnosed on Friday night, but with the parts stores closed for the holiday weekend in Ontario, we needed to wait for an early morning Amazon delivery. To complete the repair, Tom had to move to the evening flight. I kept with the original early morning flight so I didn’t lose a day. The air conditioner was fixed around 6:30am, which was before I took off, but was certainly not enough time for Tom to have joined me. After landing, I took the bus to the nearby downtown hotel and spent the day walking around San Diego.

After a day of walking, I found some dinner in the hotel and turned in relatively early. Tom’s flight was a little too late for me to stay up, but he arrived safely and made it to the hotel, leaving a cooled home behind in Toronto for the cats.

Reunited in San Diego, we explored the area around our hotel, which was in a different area of town than we normally stay in. We then walked to the airport rental car facility through Little Italy, which was also new to us. With the car, we then headed to our regular stop in La Jolla and went back to Coronado for the first time in many years.

With a little bit of luck, we found a street parking spot for the car, and made our way to the hotel. We walked around the area a bit more and had an early dinner in the hotel, before heading to bed.

To have enough time to catch our flight, we had just enough time to retrieve the car and have a nice breakfast on the hotel’s outdoor rooftop restaurant. With a bit of time in the airport lounge, we were ready for our flight to Toronto.
