The original intent of my flight to Calgary was to start my relocation from Houston to Calgary. However, the company had a different idea, and based on a new sourcing strategy meant that my job could no longer be done from Canada. Instead of relocating, I went to Calgary to sort through my belongings that had arrived from Houston, and send what I wanted to keep to Toronto. Since I hadn’t had many travel opportunities, I decided to take advantage of the trip to do some sightseeing.

Having had enough time to sort through my boxes, I took a break and went for a walk in downtown Calgary.

After another day of making moving arrangements, I found some time to get out and explore the Bow River around Fish Creek Provincial Park. For January, the weather was actually quite pleasant, and as a recent retiree, I noticed a similar demographic hiking in the park in the early afternoon.

With a few days before the movers were to arrive, I took a few days to get away and explore the Rockies, starting in Banff. A closed US border, and limited appetite for travel, meant that mountains were pleasantly quiet and a nice break.
Jan 8
After overnighting in Banff, I headed out again in the area around town and back within the park. Knowing this would probably be my last trip for a little while, I wanted to take full advantage.
Jan 10
Back in Calgary, I still had a bit of time to explore the downtown walking trails while coordinating the remaining work.

Having sorted my belongings into gifts, donations and “move back to Toronto” and sent them on their way, it was time to head back to Toronto and the beginning of retired life there.
