Austin

Tom’s niece was getting married in Austin, so we planned a long weekend visit. In addition to attending the wedding festivities, we got to explore Austin just before the craziness that is the giant SXSW conference started. We also found time to spend additional time with Tom’s sister and to have dinner with my uncle, who also lives in the city in the winter.
Mar 3
After breakfast at an airport hotel, where Tom and I connected the night before after traveling in on separate flights, we headed downtown to connect with the family. Prior to the rehearsal reception, we took a brief walk to grab some Torchy’s Tacos and enjoyed the warm Texas afternoon sun.
After a good pre-wedding party and a late flight the day before, I was ready to crash for the evening.
Mar 4
Austin has a great trail system along Lake Austin which we took advantage of before catching the bus to the very cool Ranch Austin on the Southwest edge of town. The setting was beautiful, but unfortunately the poor sun location made it difficult to capture many photos.
After a great reception with amazing food, the party moved outside for music and dance in a cool late winter Texas night. As the party wound down, we caught the party bus back to Austin.

After breakfast, the Iowa family contingent headed home and we had a little more time downtown before meeting my uncle and his partner for dinner.
Mar 6
Before our flight, we stopped by Tom’s sister’s place in Austin for a quick visit. We traveled back on the same flight, and the realities of Toronto in March, and back to work.
