In 2012, July 4th fell in the middle of the week so there was no obvious time for the traditional family gathering. As we had a long weekend around Canada Day we influenced the timing and headed to Tom’s parents in Des Moines. We tried flying to Minneapolis this time which was a little further than Kansas City but had some more convenient flight times that worked well for the long weekend. This was the first July 4th in Des Moines for a while and we got to see some faces that we hadn’t seen for a few years and had a great time together by the pool.
