After our November NYC trip to see American Idiot on Broadway, I received numerous promotion emails for the shows. When I received notice that Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day's lead singer) was joining the cast as St Jimmie for a number of shows in February we decided to make another trip of it. I found a free hotel at the very cool Andaz 5th Avenue and we had Friday night and Saturday in the city before the play and our flight home. The show was great and the audience, clearly there to see Billie Joe, added a lot of energy to an already energetic show (check out the encore here, just fill in Feb 12 2011). As our first show had featured two understudies, as an added bonus we got to see these roles with the original cast. It looks like the show will close in April with another round of Billie Joe and they are even planning a new production show for Toronto. Although it was great and recommended for others, I don’t think it will get better than this.
