As part of our normal travel patterns, the first few months of the year are an important time to use up my Air Canada upgrades and enjoy some low cost business class travel.  With really great fares to Hawaii, we fit in a short trip to Maui.  In addition to taking advantage of a free night at the Hyatt we used the first night to try again for sunrise in Haleakala.  Our last attempt was over 10 years prior, and unfortunately then, the payoff was just a cloud rising up shortly before sunrise.  This time the clouds cooperated, but the clear skies at 10,000' also meant for very cold air.  Although we dressed for it, I don't think I have ever felt so cold before.  After the incredible sunrise, fortunately it did warm up and we enjoyed some hiking before heading back to the warmth of sea level.  We then headed to the west coast to enjoy a more relaxing day, and then explored the coastal roads around the island before our evening flight back to Toronto via Calgary.
