January was the month of California. Driven by my need to re-qualify for my airline status, the good promotions and some very good airfares to Las Vegas, we had three weekends in a row in California. The first two trips we slept in Las Vegas the first night and drove to the LA area the next morning. In my opinion, that was about the right amount of time to spend in Las Vegas, if not a little too much, but it was inexpensive. Each trip we visited a very nice resort in Huntington Beach that we got to know very well. On our last trip we skipped Las Vegas, but also made it back to one of our favorite resorts in Indian Wells California near Palm Springs. Again, what seemed like a somewhat reasonable travel schedule to escape January in Toronto turned out to be a little redundant when I was spending many of my weeks in Houston. However, the free hotel stays were good, and for the first time I achieved my desired hotel status for the year in January, rather than the usual November or December. For traveling in January, we were remarkably lucky with weather, had no significant delays, and we enjoyed some pretty nice weather.
