Vancouver and Sunshine Coast

By booking our trip back to Sunshine Coast a little later in the year, we were hoping to find a little more sunshine. However, it does appear that we have a habit of arriving with the rain when we visit B.C. Although there was a lot of rain, we did find some breaks of sunshine and got in a few walks. We left on Thursday evening, and upon arrival stayed at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Vancouver.

After breakfast, we caught the bus to Horseshoe Bay to catch an early ferry to the Sunshine Coast. Our wonderful friend, and gracious host, Karrie picked us up at the ferry, and after a few errands were able to see all the work she and Geoff had completed on their house and yard since last year. We had enough sun to have a nice lunch at a quaint restaurant along the beach.

Although we didn’t capture any good photos, we did have a bird’s eye view of the Amazing Race Canada teams landing on float planes below to kick off this year’s filming. In all of our travels, this was a first for us, and although they were filming a good part of the time we were there, we never had an up-close encounter. We did, however, have a nice dinner in Sechelt, a great visit, and a restful night on the coast.

Saturday started out gray, and after breakfast at a local greasy spoon, we were able to check out the Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market before the skies really opened up. Downtown, we came across the Amazing Race Rest Stop crew, but unfortunately no racing teams. For the remainder of the day, we had a lot of rain that put a damper on the longer dog walks, but I did manage to get out on a damp walk.

Geoff again showed off his culinary skills with another vegetarian feast, and we sampled a bit more BC wine including some we had ordered in from Burrowing Owl after our earlier trip.

Apr 28

To get our midday flight, we had to head out on an early ferry and reverse our journey on the ferry, bus and Skytrain to the airport.

We arrive at the airport in time for our flight and enjoyed a light lunch in the lounger before our flight. We were soon back in Toronto and ready to return to work on Monday morning.
