We always enjoy our time in Southern California, and San Diego is one of my favourite cities in the US, so a February weekend getaway was definitely in order. Tom made his way from Toronto shortly after I arrived from Houston, and we spent our first night staying near the airport.

Feb 8

Before picking up the rental car and heading South to explore San Diego, we spent a little bit of time walking around LAX. For a city that is built for cars, LAX is one of the few airports that you can actually easily walk from any number of hotels directly to the terminals.

After a long day and a lot of walking, we settled in our hotel for the evening.

Feb 9

After breakfast at the hotel, we set out on foot to explore more of downtown San Diego. My last trip to San Diego had been for a work conference in 2019, so I was covering similar ground, but it was nice to bring Tom around to parts of San Diego we hadn’t explored for a number of years.
